Increasing Access to Essential Medicines in Developing Countries: Strategies and Barriers

HESO 449B 003 is a 3-credit student directed seminar (SDS) offered at the University of British Columbia starting in January 2010. The goal of the course is to take a multidisciplinary approach to the study of ensuring worldwide access to essential medicines. As a student-directed seminar, this course has been both created by students and will be shaped by student discussions and input throughout the term.

This course is open to third and fourth year undergraduate students in any discipline. It counts for three credits in the Faculty of Arts. Course meeting times are Mondays and Wednesdays, 7-8:30pm in Buchanan B310. This seminar will have between eight and fifteen students. It is being led by Sonja Babovic, a fourth year Combined Honours Chemistry and Biochemistry student, with the support of Prof. Kishor Wasan of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
